Multiple Teams · Al Poynter Takes Over Girls Basketball Program

Al Poynter, a veteran coach in Oakland County, takes over for the Rochester girls basketball program, and hopes to lead the Falcons back to prominence. Poynter, a former Berkley High School boys coach and Oxford High School girls coach, and most recently Macomb Community College womens assistant basketball coach, will take over a program hungry to compete. Rochester returns several starters, including Paola Barraza, Jenna Norgrove, Tori Hawkins, Alysa Miller, and Sam Thiessen. Coach Poynter not only brings experience to the Falcon program, but will bring a very aggressive defensive style, and up tempo offense that likes to get out and run in transition.

“Coach Poynter is the shot in the arm this program needs”, said Athletic Director Luke Beach. “We have some really great girls who are hungry to taste success, and Coach Poynter has the seasoning to bring out the best in our kids”, added Beach.

Coach Poynter is currently a social studies teacher at Oxford High School, and resides in Lake Orion, Michigan.
