Each month Rochester Athletics highlights one of our coaches who goes above and beyond to give our student-athletes a great athletic experience. This months coach is Boys and Girls Head Tennis coach Jerry Murphy. Jerry retired from Rochester High School after a long career as a teacher, but has coached football and tennis here at Rochester for over fourty years. Coach Murphy is well respected around the state as a tennis committee chairperson. Coach Murphy has won several OAA titles in tennis, including four straight OAA White titles from 2013-16. Coach Murphy also led both teams last season to Academic All-State honors.
Rochester Athletic Director Luke Beach said, “Coach Murphy is a staple in our athletic department. He has given over 40 years of his life to coach our kids. He is such a positive influence on his student-athletes, and truly cares about them as people”.
Jeff Haney, Girls Golf Head coach said, “Coach Murphy is one of the most dedicated coaches that we’ve ever had at Rochester High. He is very passionate about everything that he does and has always been a great example to younger coaches as to how to do things the right way. People like Jerry Murphy add so much value to a school and community”.
