Hunter Schattler, a four year starter for the Rochester Boys Basketball team, accomplished what only seven prior players have in their career, score 1000 points. Schattler has watched his team transform into a force to be reckoned with, currently with a 10-2 overall record and 6-0 division record. It hasn’t always been this easy for the Falcon’s star point guard. As a freshmen, Schattler was one of the lone bright spots and leading scorer on an 0-21 team. The past two seasons, with Schattler leading the Falcons, Rochester eclipsed eleven wins. This season, in his fourth year as a starter, the Falcons are off to their best start since 2012-13, when former NBA draft pick James Yong was leading the Rochester team. Schattler’s hard work paid off last night in a victory over Ferndale, as he eclipsed the 1000 point mark to become the 8th ever boys basketball to accomplish the difficult feat.
Former Rochester Boys Basketball Coach John Pleasant said, “What a great accomplishment for Hunter. he has worked incredibly hard to improve his craft over the course of his career. I told Hunter, the journey to 1000 points is not always easy, but it is rewarding. Hunter has given so much to this program, and I am happy to see his reach this great benchmark”.
Athletic Director Luke Beach added, “Hunter has been such a great ambassador of our basketball program the last four years. He has put in countless hours to achieve this prestigious milestone, and I am thrilled to have shared in his four years here at Rochester”.
Rochester will continue towards their goal of winning the division, as they take on Harrison on the road Tuesday.
