If you’ve ever visited Pine Knob during a Rochester Ski race, you’ll see a vibrant and fun personality greeting you as she passionately coaches her team. That coach is Susie Mackens, this month’s Coach in the Spotlight. Each month Rochester Athletics highlights one of our dedicated coaches, who go above an beyond to give our student-athletes a great experience. Coach Mackens is in her third full season leading the Rochester Ski program. She has also served as an assistant for eight years. In her time she has helped guide several skiers to qualify for the State Championships as both a head coach and assistant. There is also a very fun and passionate vibe amongst the members of the team, and that is due in large part to Mackens.
Rochester Athletics Director Luke Beach said, “Susie is really passionate about ski, and she really wants her student-athletes to have an amazing experience. She does an excellent job of promoting her sport and generating interest in ski. When I am around our skiers, they share such good camaraderie and are great teammates, and that’s what Susie is all about”.
Sophomore Emily Eckel qualified for the state championships in giant slalom this season.
