The Rochester High School Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving team opened its 2019-2020 season earlier this fall with a home match-up against fellow OAA White League member Troy High School.

RHS’s team brought a strong competitive spirit to the meet, which included many highlights for the Falcons. In the 200 Freestyle, senior captain Mikayla Agius scored a second-place finish and Oakland County Championship meet consideration qualifying time of 2:07.70.

Juniors Elise VeCasey (200.5) and Abby VeCasey (165.35) landed the top two spots in the diving event. Senior captain Kendall Evans achieved a MISCA Meet qualifying time with her second-place finish in the 100 Breastroke (1:14.47); teammates Grace Agius (sophomore) and Sanya Gupta (sophomore) took third and fourth in the event respectively. The Falcons also managed to secure the top spot in the final event of the night, the 400 Free Relay, with a winning time of 4:05.59 (R. Kim, C. Bejin, M. Agius, G. Agius).

Freshman newcomer Aurora Schultz was named Athlete of the Meet after swimming a personal best in the 50 Free and breaking the 30 second barrier for the first time ever with a time of 29.47.

Ultimately the Falcons fell short of the Colts, losing to Troy with a final score of 105-81.

The Rochester High School Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving team placed 6th at the 2019 Laker Invitational held recently at West Bloomfield High School.

The diving portion of the meet saw a 3rd place finish from junior Elise VeCasey (291.70, 11 dives), 4th place finish from junior Abby VeCasey (265.15, 11 dives), and 13th for senior Meghan Jones (102.95, 6 dives).

Many of RHS’s swimmers saw personal bests in their events, including sophomore Pranavi Gudi (3:11.06) and freshman Isabella Cabrera-Hernandez (2:46.37) in the 200 Free, junior Faith Park (29.17) and freshman Vivian Williams (28.68) in the 50 Free, sophomore Savannah Gurley (1:14.81) in the 100 Fly, and junior Hannah Yoon (6:51.24) in the 500 Free.

Freshman Anna Reif was named Swimmer of the Meet after swimming four varsity events with personal best times. Reif split her freestyle leg of the 200 Medley Relay at 30.62, touched in at 1:08.77 in the 100 Free, beat the personal best time she had set just a few events before in her leg of the 200 Freestyle Relay at 30.21, and finished the day with a 1:28.08 in the 100 Breaststroke.

The meet was won by Novi High School with a final point total of 308.
