Girls Varsity Swimming · Girls Swim & Dive Making the Holidays Sweeter

Members of the Girls Swim and Dive Team wrapped up a season long commitment to Power Company Kids Club in Pontiac by making 200 Christmas treat bags last week.  After sponsoring and serving lunch to the PCKC leadership camp in July, the team was inspired to continue to help out the children who attend Power Company’s  programs by hosting a candy drive collecting extra Halloween candy. The result was  hundreds of pounds of candy!  The girls even surpassed their goal and only used up half the candy they collected creating the treat bags.  The rest of the candy will be delivered to a mass assembly day at PCKC on December 1 where the goal is to create 2,700 Christmas treat bags to be distributed to Pontiac and Detroit area missions.  Power Company Kids Club is a faith based program in Pontiac and Detroit that serves over 1,600 underprivileged and at risk children each week.

Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Two Qualify for State Cross Country Meet

On Saturday the Rochester Falcons Cross Country team traveled to Algonac High School to compete in the regional championship. In the girls varsity race junior captain Elizabeth Bulat placed 14th in a very competitive field with a time of 19:12, a four second PR and she earned a trip to the state finals next week. “Liz’s season continues to be a success and if anyone deserves to go the state finals it is her”, Coach Pavicic stated. “Her approach to training and racing is on an entire different level this year and it is definitely paying dividends.” The team placed 8th place overall with 202 points. Varsity girls who earned PRs were Camryn Remick (19:41, 22nd), Casie Nadasky (20:23, 46th), and Alexa Ligon (20:42, 53rd).

In the boys race senior captain Austin Remick ran a personal best time of 15:33 good enough for third place. His time moves him up to third on the All-Time Top Times in school history. “He ran a perfect race and put himself in a position to be up there with the leaders and run a fast time”, Coach Pavicic said. “It’s been fun coaching him this year as he is has nailed his training to perfection, we can’t wait to see what he can do next week at the state finals.” Senior Zac Schneck had a PR in the boys varsity race with a time of 18:02.

The top 3 teams and top 15 individuals at the region meet qualify to the state meet. Austin has qualified to the state meet as a team or as an individual in his four years on the team. The University of Michigan commit finished 27th overall at last year’s state meet which was good enough for All-State honors. This will be Elizabeth’s first state meet competition. The state finals will be on Saturday, November 4 at Michigan International Speedway.
