Multiple Teams · Rochester District Champions

Winning a title is difficult, defending a title is even harder. The Rochester Boys Soccer team fought a very impressive Clarkston team to the bitter end, and came away with a 3-2 win in two overtimes. The Falcons mettle was tested on several occasions, including falling behind 2-1 late in regulation, but Rochester would not be denied. Senior goalkeeper Luke Kastran was marvelous in goal, punching out what would have been a game tieing goal on a penalty kick with just over two minutes remaining in the second overtime. Marco Gomez knocked the first goal through for the Falcons, and than it was the Luciano Errecalde show. The talented senior picked up his 23rd goal on the year, becoming the all-time goal in a season leader for Rochester. The Falcons will advance onto the Regional Semi-Finals on Wednesday, October 25th, at 4:30pm, at Flint Atwood Stadium.

Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Remick is OAA Red Individual Champion

On Thursday Oct. 19 the Falcons competed in a very competitive OAA Red Conference Championship. Senior Austin Remick continued his standout season running a season best of 15:42over the 5-kilometer course. He was the individual champion and beat runner-up George Nummer from Seaholm by four seconds. “He ran a very smart and competitive race”, said head coach Anthony Pavicic. “A couple of guys up front tried to strategize the race and catch him off guard but he didn’t bite.” Men’s runner who ran PRs today included Alex Kuron, Zac Schneck, Cameron Wright, Luis Garcia, Jacob Rao, Brian LeBel, Derek Snyder, John Haddad, and Josh Murawski.

On the lady’s side junior Elizabeth Bulat earned All-League honors by running a personal best of 19:16 and placing 12th. “Liz is an overall great kid and she works so hard during the season to be the best she can be”, said Coach Pav. “When we go over race plans she follows them perfectly. She does her homework and knows her competitors, their times, where they ran their last race, and so on. We love having her as a captain and a leader of this team.” Lady runners who also ran personal bests on Thursday were Casie Nadasky, Hannah Schurman, Amanda LeBel, Mya Fisher, and Payton Johnson.

Up next the Falcons have the Bloomer Freshman/Sophomore meet on Monday then the Regional Championship on Saturday October 28 at Algonac High School.

Falcons News · Women in Leadership Lecture

Every sports season Rochester Athletics hosts a Women in Leadership lecture series, that exposes our females student-athletes to strong professional women from our community. Today Rochester Athletics had the privilege of having an alumni, who was a four-time state champion at Rochester, as the guest speaker for our Women in Leadership program. Laura Murphy, a senior management partner at Google, was on hand to speak to our female student-athletes about the life lessons she learned while she was a student-athlete as Rochester, and how she applies them today. We are very grateful to Ms. Murphy for sharing her story with our students.

*You can see a portion of her speech on our Rochester Athletics Facebook page.
